Vietnamese runner Ha Thi Hau on Saturday night won the women’s 100-kilometer distance at the Amazean Jungle Thailand in 16 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds.

Hau, 35, is the first Vietnamese female to win the category.

She also broke the event’s record of 17 hours, 29 minutes, and 32 seconds.

She was a tour guide in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam before joining her first trail race five years earlier.

Her victory touched many Vietnamese spectators as she held a non la (Vietnamese traditional conical hat) to reach the finish line.

In 2023, Hau won the 100-kilometer distance of another running event in Thailand, Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB.

She also ranked fourth in the 100-kilometer distance of Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, one of the most difficult and largest foot races in the world, in France in the same year although this was the first time she had joined the race.

She is the first Vietnamese woman to achieve such a high result at the running event.

Her biggest target for this year is to return to France and win the race.

The winner of the men’s 100-kilometer distance at the Amazean Jungle Thailand this year was Disi Liang from China.

He completed the distance in 15 hours, 39 minutes, and nine seconds.
