A Vietnam-U.S. trade office was inaugurated on Wednesday in the southern province of Binh Duong, home to more than 80 U.S.-invested projects.
The place functions as a Vietnamese representative office for the U.S.-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in the U.S., a Berkeley, California-based trade organization.
The office is aimed at creating favorable conditions for investors in general and those from the U.S. in particular when doing business in the province, the provincial deputy chairman, Mai Hung Dung, said at the opening ceremony.
Located some 70km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong is home to many industrial parks and export processing zones, and is connected with nearby airports and seaports.
This makes the location and the province a suitable destination for American investors, said Mai Hoang, chairman of the U.S.-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in the U.S.
The office will serve as a bridge between an increasing number of U.S. investors seeking business opportunities in Vietnam and local partners, she said.
As of October 2015, Binh Duong had attracted 81 direct foreign investment projects collectively worth US$650 million from the U.S., according to deputy chairman Dung.
“The new office will help boost FDI flows from the U.S. to the province,” he said.
The U.S.-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in the U.S. is a trade organization not to be mistaken for the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham) – an independent association of American and international businesses with an objective to promote trade and investment between Vietnam and the United States.
