Hue Imperial City to open at night from April

Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 19:00 GMT+7

The Imperial City of Hue, the ancient capital of Vietnam, will open to visitors starting from April in order to allow visitors a more relaxed experience.

The Imperial City of Hue is a walled palace located in central Vietnam’s Hue City which served as the capital of Vietnam during the reign of the Nguyen dynasty between 1802 and 1945.

The site is a popular tourist attraction, and has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site in 1993.

Starting April 22, the Imperial City will be open to visitors between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm, instead of during daytime only, according to Phan Thanh Hai, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.

The extended opening time will remain in effect until September 15, allowing visitors to avoid the scorching heat of the summer while offering them the unique experience of the imperial city at night, Hai said.

A number of nighttime activities that once took place inside the Imperial City will be replicated, such as the shift change rituals of the old imperial guards, musical performances, religious offerings, and martial arts training by the imperial army.

Those who visit at night will pay a ticket price of VND120,000 (US$5.36) for Vietnamese citizens or VND150,000 ($6.7) for foreigners.
