One of the Ho Chi Minh City’s icons, the bronze statue titled “Uncle Ho with Kids,” which currently stands in front of the city People’s Committee headquarters in District 1, will be moved to District 3.

HCMC People’s Committee has assigned the city’s Youth Union to be in charge of the statue relocation as well as the renovation of the Children House’s premises where the statue will be placed.

“Uncle Ho with Kids” was initially planned to be moved to the Children Palace in Thu Thiem new urban area in District 2.

In the mean time, HCMC People’s Committee is launching a contest on designing a new statue to replace the “Uncle Ho with Kids” in District 1.

According to the committee, the contest is open to all reputable sculptors across the country.

The new statue, which will be 6.3 meters high and made of bronze, needs to satisfy aesthetic requirement and has to depict the charisma of President Ho Chi Minh.

An art council to judge the new statue has been established. It includes 13 members and led by Hua Ngoc Thuan, deputy chairman of HCMC People’s Committee.
