Politics -- Vietnam hopes to boost cooperation with Ukraine in strengthening  public security officials’ capacity of fighting international criminals, especially those using high technology, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang said when receiving a delegation from Ukrainian external security service led by their Vice Director Lieutenant-General S. Sergey Ivanovich, in Hanoi , on April 5. He hoped Vietnam and Ukraine will closely work together to enhance news exchanges and share experience to combat and prevent all kinds of crime. Ivanovich said he believed that the cooperation between the two public security agencies would be further intensified in the coming time.

Society --  Ho Chi Minh City Health Department has asked the International Health Quarantine Center and other concerned agencies to take measures to respond to the H7N9 strain of bird flu virus , which has killed six people in China. The department requested that body temperature be made for all visitors to the city through Tan Son Nhat Airport and other border gates. In China, health authorities in  Shanghai City ordered the laughter of all birds at a market where the H7N9 flu virus was found in pigeons being sold for meat.  -- The People’s Court in northern Hai Phong Province yesterday sentenced Doan Van Vuon, 50, to five years in jail for charge of “murder”. On January 5 2012, Vuon, his wife and his four relatives used shotguns and homemade landmines to fight on-duty officers who executed a decision to withdraw 40 hectares of land from Vuon, who did not agree to the eviction which he said was against the Law on Land. Vuon and three others were charged with murder while his wife and another woman were charged with “resisting on-duty officers”. Their violent resistance that caused injuries to seven policemen and soldiers.  --  The People’ Court in Long An Province gave a death sentence to Luc Gia Khanh for producing, trafficking and storing about 100 kg of drugs. His three accomplices were sentenced to life imprisonment while eight others received sentences from 1 year to 20 years in prison.  -- The new air route from Khanh Hoa Province’s Cam Ranh to Moscow, the capital of Russia, opened yesterday with the first flight conducted by Vietnam Airlines for 370 passengers. The route will have one flight every Friday from now until October, when the number of flight is expected to increase to two per week, on Mondays and Fridays. -- For the sake of sustainable aquaculture development,  the Fisheries Breeding Center in central Quang Ngai Province and the authorities of Ly Son Island District  released about 1 million breeding shrimps into the sea. The released shrimp was the kind that is of high quality, had high economic value and can develop rapidly in their natural habitats.Business

-- Many experts expressed their concerns that Vietnam's economy will face a lot of difficulties in the coming time if the Government fails to take drastic and effective measures. The warning was released at the opening meeting of the 2013 Spring Economic Forum held by the National Assembly's Economic Committee in Nha Trang City yesterday. The country's GDP growth rate in 2012 was the lowest in thirteen years and the bad debt in 2012 increased by 64 percent from 2011, experts said. Lifestyle -- Roger Ebert, who was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize and longtime co-host of the Emmy-nominated program At the Movies, has passed away on Thursday at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago after a long battle with cancer. He was 70. Ebert, who is considered as one of the most famous movie critics of all time, had reviewed movies for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years and on TV for 31 years.Sports -- Vietnamese top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh has been stunned by China’s young but spirited shuttler Xue Song in the quarter-final round of the Yonex Australian Badminton Open Minh was defeated 0-2 (21-15 and 21-10) by Xue in a battle that lasted for 38 minutes on Friday, April 5, 2013. With this victoryXue earned a spot in the semi-finals of the competition.
