A Vietnamese designer has recently won an award in a graphic contest in the U.S. thanks to his logo created for a charity cause.
Nguyen Tri Phuong Dong took home a prize in the Identity Design category of the American Graphic Design 2015 competition for his logo, designed for a student-run charity project called “Warm Feet.”
Dong’s artwork features eight pairs of shoes with two different colors. The dark green shoes are for males while the brighter ones for females.
The soles’ patterns were inspired by the motifs imprinted on ethnic children’s clothes. The red heart represents love and sharing.
Dong also won another award in the Calendar category for his two artworks, namely Classic Motorcycles in Saigon and The Mekong Delta Landscape.
Those 2016 calendar designs were used for the competition and have not hit the market yet.
“Warm Feet” was initiated by four eleventh-grade students at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City to seek shoe donations for unprivileged children in mountainous regions.
Last year, 1,154 pairs of shoes were sent to students in some Central Highlands and northern localities such as Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Ha Giang, and Phu Tho as part of their project. First held in 2012, the American Graphic Design contest was organized by Graphic Design USA magazine, a reference source for graphic design professionals.
The 2015 edition, which concluded on December 15, featured 19 categories including catalogs, advertising, infographics, posters, and calendars, receiving 9,000 entries from designers around the world.
In 2014, Nguyen Tri Phuong Dong also grabbed an award by Graphic Design USA magazine for his “Saigon Zoom In” book, which offers readers necessary information about Ho Chi Minh City.
