Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) supports the increased application of information technology in the country’s social and economic development, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said on Thursday. The NA chairman made the statement at a reception on October 30 for delegates to the Vietnam ASOCIO ICT Summit 2014, which took place in Hanoi and the central city of Da Nang from October 28-31, the Vietnam News Agency reported. The Vietnamese leader called on the guests to continue assisting Vietnam in enhancing the future application and development of IT.

He told the delegates that IT is booming in Vietnam and that the sector has played an important role in almost every level of society, fuelled the country’s economic growth and supported the management of the State.

The summit provided a chance for participants to exchange information on, and experience in, expanding the application of IT in various fields, including transport, healthcare, economics and institutions, the NA chairman said.

Meanwhile, the delegates told their host that the summit helped develop a joint vision for ICT as a new growth method, opportunity and fundamental basis for national development in each country, as well as the shortest path to prosperity.

Organized annually by the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), the four-day event focused on ICT as a new paradigm for socio-economic development and agricultural restructuring.

This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the summit, the largest ICT event in Asia and Oceania.

ASOCIO was established in 1984 and now has 29 members and guest members comprising more than 10,000 ICT companies that account for approximately US$350 billion in ICT revenue.
