Innovations in healthcare improve life quality of Vietnamese people

Many breakthrough healthcare innovations have helped solving health challenges in Vietnam, improving life quality of many Vietnamese people.

Innovations solve worldwide healthcare challenges

Health has been the most concerned of people around the world.

And for many years, healthcare innovations have proved their impact on people’s lives by offering advanced technologies and treatments, bringing a better chance for people to enjoy their life.

By early of 2017, Fast Company, a credential American business magazine, has conducted a survey to honor leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation.

Abbott, global healthcare company, has been named among most of innovative companies, placed on Top 10 business in Biotech.

Previously, Abbott has been named in Top 100 Global Innovators for four consecutive years. Two out of its breakthrough innovations were also recognized on Best of What’s News list published by Popular Science Magazine.

These awards have once again reaffirmed Abbott’s focus on innovation and hi-tech treatment specialty, bringing people around the world the best lives through advanced technologies.

Since the beginning of 2014, Abbott has invested more than US$3.5 billion in Research and Development (R&D) to the U.S.

In Asia, Abbott has eight R&D sites, under a network of more than 40 existing sites across 20 countries.

The company’s innovation has changed lives of many people around the world.

One of Abbott’s innovative devices which received many innovation awards is AbsorbTM stent - the world's first fully dissolving heart stent, researched and developed by Abbott to treat coronary artery disease (CAD).

Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S., Absorb is implanted in patients around the globe and available in more than 100 countries.

Absorb is a first-of-its-kind device that functions like a permanent, metallic stent by opening a blocked artery in the heart, restoring blood flow and providing relief from symptoms of coronary artery disease (CAD).

An unrestricted vessel with restored vessel function has the potential to flex, pulse and dilate in response to various demands on the heart, based on people's lifestyle and activities, and allows for potential future treatment options.

Vietnamese people’s live is better thanks to breakthrough innovations

Heart disease is one of the health challenge which is on the rise in almost all countries in the world.

In Vietnam, 30 percent of total deaths relates to health diseases. Heart diseases, including coronary artery diseases (CAD) has already impacted nearly 10 percent of the population due to smoking, high in cholesterol, etc. Furthermore, according to World Heart Association, 20 percent of the Vietnamese population is anticipated to have heart diseases by 2017.

Since it was introduced in December 2012, Absorb has seen an upward adoption curve with more than 400 implantations on patients as of 2015.

Doctors consider Absorb as an important weapon in the fight against coronary artery diseases. Most patients applied Absorb recover quickly and can go back to life after 2 – 3 days of implantation.

This breakthrough treatment is cost-effective and timely treatment that enables Vietnamese people access to the world’s latest advanced technologies without going abroad for treatment.

As Vietnam is one of Abbott’s top priority markets, professor Krishna Sudhir, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Abbott Vascular shared: “We believe a healthy cardiovascular system is essential to good health, which can be achieved through medical technologies that are less invasive, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
