A man and his youngest daughter have been killed and his wife and eldest child seriously injured by a house fire that broke out on Saturday morning in the central city of Da Nang.

Tran Minh Tinh, 47, a resident on Tran Le Street in Cam Le District, has been killed while attempting to rescue his eight-year-old daughter, Tran Thi Thao Nhi, who also lost her life to the flames the broke out inside their home.

Tran Thi Thanh Tra, 46, Tinh’s wife, and their oldest daughter, 22-year-old Tran Thi Tra Giang, who both suffered severe burns and narrowly escaped death, were admitted to Da Nang Hospital for emergency treatment.

Giang suffered burns to 25 percent of her body while the fire burnt nearly 90 percent of Tra’s body, a representative of the hospital’s division of Burn Surgery and Reconstruction said.

According to the municipal Department of Firefighting Police, they received the report of a house fire at around 1:44 am on Saturday, dispatching four fire trucks and a rescue vehicle to the residence.

Firefighters broke window glass on the second floor to extinguish the inferno and discovered the deceased bodies of Tinh and Nhi.

According to the victims’ relatives, Tinh and his family members moved into the house about two years ago.

The man was sleeping in a separate room due to his common cold while the rest of the family was in another bedroom.

The fire broke out in the second room, with Nhi scared by the heat and hiding under the bed.

The mother and older sister were forced to flee the room and call for help after being burned by the fire.

Tinh later charged into the inferno the save his daughter and got himself killed, while his wife also tried to help, resulting in her critical burns.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
