-- Vietnam’s National Assembly will convene a meeting, scheduled for March 7 to 10, to review reports on social-economic situations and the national budget in the 2011-15 period as well as setting objectives and orientations for the country’s social, economic, and financial development in 2016-20.

-- Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and the Ministry of Health on Sunday organized a conference to discuss a solution for improving facilities, reducing patient crowding, and enhancing health care services at hospitals in the southern city.

-- Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Nhat, deputy chief of the Department of Police in the central city of Quang Ngai, affirmed on Sunday afternoon that they had arrested Tran Quang Phu for causing a road accident that killed a mother and her child in the morning. Phu had had his driver’s license suspended on February 26, the officer added.

-- Police in the southern province of Dong Nai on Sunday detained Nguyen Hoang Hung, 35, for impersonating a police officer and illegally possessing drugs.

-- The People’s Committee in the central city of Da Nang has approved a project to improve several major routes in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in 2017.

Business

-- Japan’s Creed Group and Vietnam’s An Gia Investment on Sunday inked a contract with Phat Dat Corporation to develop the River City Apartment Complex in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. With the capital of US$500 million, the project is expected to provide 8,000 apartments, retail stores, and other components.

-- Tran Kim Long, an official of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that a proposal has been submitted to the government, suggesting a strategy to boost the foreign direct investment (FDI) flow into Vietnam’s fishery, forestry, and agriculture. The total FDI channeled into agriculture is anticipated to be $5 billion in 2020 and $8 billion in 2030, Long added

-- Two female scientists from Vietnam, Dang Thi Cam Ha, from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Pham Thi Ngoc Thao, deputy director of Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Ch Minh City, were honored with the Kovalevskaya awards in Hanoi on Sunday morning.
