Hoi An leader catches robber at festival

Nguyen Su, Party secretary of Hoi An town, managed to catch a necklace snatcher at the 5th ongoing Quang Nam Heritage Festival.

While instructing security forces to ensure the safety of festival-goers who flocked to Hoi An for the event named “Night at Hoi An ancient town at the beginning of the 20th century” on the evening of June 21, Su found a suspected man among the crowd on An Hoi bridge and secretly followed him.

As he previously guessed, the man snatched a necklace from a woman and tried to run away from the scene. Su quickly showed up and nabbed him with the help of some patrolling policemen.

The robber was later identified as 28-year-old Luu Van Khanh hailing from An Giang province in the south.

On the same day, local police arrested three more robbers, all of them coming from the south.

The festival attracts tens of thousands of people every night, so pickpockets and robbers have a good chance to ‘earn’ money. According to local authorities, on June 21 alone, festival goers lost 5 golden necklaces, two i-Phones and ten millions of dong in cash to robbers at the event.
