Police in the northern Thanh Hoa Province arrested two members of the ring that counterfeited and sold hundreds of driver’s licenses and vocational training certificates from the beginning of this year. Pham Ngoc Lim, 46, and Le Sy Son 32, were detained last Saturday, said Colonel Le Van Nghiem, head of the provincial Police Department. On searching the houses of the two men, police seized a large quantity of driver’s licenses for cars and motorbikes, vocational training certificates, applications for driver licenses with forged signatures and stamps of driver’s license granting centers in the province. They received photographs and personal information including ID card numbers of those who wanted to buy fake driver’s licenses and then used the Personal Electronic Devices (PED) technology to make counterfeit licenses that are identical to genuine ones. The men confessed to police that they sold a fake license for a price between VND700,000 and 3 million (US$144). From the beginning of this year until their arrest, their ring had created and sold hundreds of licenses, they said. Police are expanding their investigation to track down other members of the ring.
