Vietnam gunman nabbed after firing 50 shots at police

Police in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho arrested a man who broke into a building and fired about 50 shots at police officers who surrounded the facility, trying to seize him in the small hours of Wednesday morning. No casualties have been reported so far. The building is located at number 9 National Highway 91, Chau Van Liem Ward, O Mon District. Its ground and first floors are leased by a bank, while the third to sixth floors are rented by Karaoke Hotel 555.  Local police rushed to the scene after being tipped of about an armed man breaking into the hotel at about 3:00 am. At that time, a man standing on the sixth floor requested that police stop entering the hotel. The man then opened fire on police officers, causing them to take shelter. Can Tho City police then sent more than 100 officers to surround the building but the gunman continued shooting at the police. Police forces were divided into teams to approach the area and captured the armed man at 6:30 am. They seized from him an AK assault rifle and three cartridge-clips. Police officers have also examined the scene and confiscated a lot of cartridge cases. About 50 shots were fired from the gunman, police and local residents said. The man is being questioned about why he entered the hotel with a weapon and attacked police.
