Two workers were killed in a serious tug boat explosion which occurred on Saturday in Ho Chi Minh City.
The oil cellar of a tug boat called Kim An 06, numbered SG 1800, exploded on Saturday morning when the boat was docking at Vegeport J. Co.’s port near Phu My Bridge in District 7.
The blast tossed Le Quang Cuong, 25, and killed him instantly.
Quach Hoai Nam, 44, was immediately rushed for medical attention for his critical injuries, but passed away at the hospital later the same day.
Senior Lieutenant Pham Xuan Huan, a member of the monitoring team under the Phu My Port’s Border Guard Station, said he heard a loud noise around 9.15am.
The boat was in flames then, he recalled.
10 minutes later, a team of District 4’s fire fighting department was deployed to put the blaze out.
A barge which was carrying water tanks in the vicinity of the blast site was also summoned to help extinguish the fire.
According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Van Phuoc My, deputy chief of District 4’s Fire Fighting and Prevention Department, a preliminary investigation revealed the blast might be triggered by the repairs made by several mechanics and sailors above the oil cellar.
