Angelov suffered a sudden heart attack while the ship was sailing from Singapore to South Korea. At 8:10 pm on October 4, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Zone 4 received SOS signals from the C Dream, which was 173 nautical miles off Nha Trang, said Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of the center. Immediately after that, the center sent rescue boat SAR27-01 to the scene to provide assistance, Binh said. At 1:15 pm on October 5, the vessel neared the cargo ship and health workers boarded to provide first aid to Angelov. At 2:55 pm, the rescue ship returned to the Nah Trang port and handed the patient over to local health authorities. The patient was later taken to the Khanh Hoa Province General Hospital.

Last November a similar case occurred when Vietnamese rescuers took ashore a Japanese woman and an Indonesian man who suffered from serious health problems while on board a yacht off of south-central Khanh Hoa Province. The woman, Michiko Gamamuchi, was an 81-year-old tourist while the man, Mahmudi, 49, was the boat’s mechanic.

After being taken to the Nha Trang Port on the morning of November 28, the pair were brought to the Khanh Hoa General Hospital for emergency treatment. Michiko had broken two  bones in her left arm, while Mahmudi was suffering from heavy gastrointestinal bleeding, doctors said. Their boat, the Ocean Dream, with a Panamanian flag, was sailing from China to Singapore.
