After flying for an hour and fifty minutes, Flight VN421, which had left South Korea’s Busan at 10 am (local time) for Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, made an urgent landing at the Kaohsiung Airport so that Lee J., a South Korean passenger who had fainted, could receive treatment.

After flight attendants discovered that Lee, who was accompanied by his Vietnamese spouse Le Thi Thu L., had passed out, they asked a doctor who was onboard to administer first aid.

As Lee only recovered slightly after treatment, the pilot decided to ask Taiwanese air traffic control for permission to make an urgent landing. Once on the ground, the crew  coordinated with the Kaohsiung airport authority to take the man to a local hospital. The crew also helped Lee’s wife exit the plane, along with her luggage, so she could care for her husband.

The plane took off from Kaohsiung Aiport at 1:55 pm and arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City at 4 pm, three hours later than scheduled. On September 29, another Vietnam Airlines plane landed urgently at Henri Coanda Airport in the Romanian city of Bucharest after a passenger, Choi Y., 22, also a South Korean national, began have difficulty breathing. The fight made the emergency landing two hours after it had left Frankfurt, Germany, at 5:08 pm (local time) for Hanoi. After Choi was taken to a local hospital, the flight left Romania at 12:59 am on September 30 and arrived at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat Airport at 2:10 pm the same day, five hours behind schedule, the carrier said.
