Music show closed to children and …virtuous women

A music show in the northern city of Hai Phong is under fire for its weird ad panels saying only those above 18 and non-virtuous women are allowed.

Many travelers passing through the Hai Phong Culture Sport Youth House, the Maritime University and several streets around the city on August 30 were shocked seeing the panels promoting the “Vu Dieu Duong Cong” (the Dance of Curves) show which will take place in the city on September 9.

On the panels, local artists are described in provocative words like “Nu Hoang Noi Y” (Queen of lingerie) and “Yeu Nu Hang Hieu” (Devil wears luxury brands).

The most shocking part is the sentence “Chuong trinh khong danh cho cac ban tre duoi 18 tuio va phu nu doan trang” (People under 18 years old and virtuous women are not allowed) printed on the panels.

According to the Hai Phong’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the show has been approved by the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Thanh Hoa where the show’s organizers are based.

It’s planned to be held in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh. However, according to Pham Duc Quang, official from the Hai Phong cultural department, the contents on the panels hung on Hai Phong’s streets are way different from those approved by Thanh Hoa’s cultural department.

Quang also added Hai Phong department only allows the show’s organizers to hang their panels from September 3, but they violated and released them before the date.

“We will investigate and ask Thanh Hoa’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism [the agency approving the show] to handle it,” Quang added.

On the afternoon of August 30, inspectors of Hai Phong’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism had the panels taken down.

“We will monitor the show when it takes place here. It’s been approved as a public event but doesn’t allow virtuous women, so people could think bad about it,” Pham On, the department’s chief inspector said.
