Two Hungarian guitarists recently performed a concert in Ho Chi Minh City which boasted works by European and Latin American composers, the Goethe Institute said on its website.
Noted Hungarian guitarists Peter and Zoltan Katona staged the “Concert with Guitar Duo Katona Twins,” which was held at 7:00 pm on September 27 at the HCMC Conservatory of Music at 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.
Peter and Zoltan Katona, identical twins, presented beautiful melodies by British singer-songwriter and producer Freddie Mercury, Spanish pianist and composer Isaac Albéniz, German composer and musician J. S. Bach, and Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla.
Before coming to Vietnam, the duo, also known as the Katona Twins, performed in many major concert venues throughout the world, including performances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (the Netherlands), the Suntory Hall in Tokyo (Japan), and the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne (Germany).
From the age of ten, the twins have studied both individually and as a guitar duo in Budapest, Hungary; Frankfurt, Germany; and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England.
They have been invited on numerous occasions to record for the BBC and other international television and radio stations.
The twins, born in 1968, have won a wide range of prizes, both individually and together.
In 2004, they were awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni prize. In 1998, they won the Concert Artists Guild Competition held in New York.
The twins were winners at the Young Concert Artist Trust auditions in London in 1997 and took home the S.T. Johnson Foundation prize in 1995 and the Laura Ashley prize in 1996.
