Vietnam eyes expanding ties with India

At a meeting with visiting President of the India-ASEAN Business Promotion Council Shantanu Srivastava, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed all-around links with India.   The Deputy PM made the proposal while receiving his Indian guest in Hanoi on Tuesday, and suggested that cooperation cover economics, trade, investment, energy, tourism, national defense, science-technology and culture. Comprehensive cooperation between the two countries will help further promote the traditional friendship and existing bilateral strategic partnership, Phuc said. For his part, Srivastava said he hopes that the Vietnamese Government continues to give enthusiastic support and favorable conditions for Indian investors to do business in Vietnam. The Indian official also expressed his wish that both sides will hold the annual Vietnamese Culture Days in India and Indian Culture Days in Vietnam. Last November, Vietnam and India issued a Joint Statement and signed eight cooperation agreements during the visit to India by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong. During the visit, the two sides reached consensus on concrete steps to promote cooperation in the five pillars of the strategic partnership, including politics, defense and security; economics and trade; science and technology; culture and technique; and regional and multilateral issues, which were set in their statement of strategic partnership establishment.
