Phu My Hung celebrates Year of Rooster with flower festival

Phu My Hung celebrates Year of Rooster with flower festival

Thursday, January 12, 2017, 11:33 GMT+7

A flower festival to welcome the Lunar New Year is set to take place in Phu My Hung, a wealthy township in Ho Chi Minh City, from January 20 to 26.

Organizers announced Wednesday that the festival’s opening ceremony will start at 7:00 pm on January 21 at the Crescent Lake area in District 7.

The event will feature four sections - Spring Road, Spring Garden, Spring Quay, and Spring Contribution.

The Spring Road section will be adorned with many species of flowers and plants, as well as a rooster and his offspring made entirely from rattan and bamboo to represent a prosperous life.

The rooster is designated as the coming lunar year’s zodiac sign.

The Spring Garden area will house canola and sunflower fields. An ornamental flower competition will also be held in the section to honor Vietnamese flowers.

The Spring Quay section will exhibit a rural Vietnamese market with flower boats, agro-produce-carrying ships, and an area for attendees to release lit paper flower boats onto water to wish for the good for the whole lunar year. Traditional musical performances will also be organized in the area at night during the festival.

The Spring Contribution section of the venue will display flowers grown by artisans and gardeners from other provinces.

The Phu My Hung flower festival plans to display 500 flower booths and 200 Lunar New Year-themed stands.

Pop singers will perform at the fest’s main stage every evening.
