Oxford professor invited to lecture in Vietnam’s advanced math institute

Professor John Ball, from the British University of Oxford, has been invited to lecture at the Hanoi-based Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM).

As part of VISAM’s 2017 initiative to arrange lecturers related to mathematic applications in climate change, Prof. Ball has been invited to deliver a series of lecturers relating to applied mathematics, Professor Ngo Bao Chau, scientific director of the math institute, said.

His topic is related to mathematical applications in solid mechanics, according to Prof Chau.

The visiting professor gave the first lecture in the series on Tuesday.

The program is organized in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City-based Viet Capital Bank.

 Professor Henri Berestycki, director of the Paris-based Center for Social Analysis and Mathematics (CAMS) under the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) is also scheduled to deliver lectures at VISAM.
