Vietnamese Facebook personality Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh was sentenced to ten years behind bars on Thursday after being arrested last year on charges of “spreading propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.”

Quynh, better known by her online alias ‘Me Nam’ (Mother Mushroom), was arrested by Khanh Hoa Police on October 10, 2016 for conducting anti-state propaganda under Clause 1 of Article 88 of the Penal Code of Vietnam according to the indictment announced by the provincial People’s Procuracy,

The first instance trial began Thursday at The People’s Court in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa seeking a verdict on her involvement in running several Facebook accounts since 2010 using multiple aliases including Me Nam, Me Nam Gau, Nguyen Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh. Between 2012 and the time of her arrest, Quynh used her Facebook pages to draft, post, and share ‘false and groundless’ articles opposing the State, the laws of Vietnam, and  policies set forth by the Communist Party, the indictment read.

She was also found guilty on multiple counts of organizing and participating in activities and events aimed at ‘inciting the people’ to rise up against the State, according to the indictment.

Quynh was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in prison for her crimes by the People’s Court of Khanh Hoa.
