-- The People’s Committee of central Quang Nam Province said on Saturday they had requested competent agencies to look into residents’ tip-offs that several Vietnamese people are purchasing land plots in Tam Ky City before transferring their ownership to foreigners, mostly Chinese.

-- A preschooler and his three-year-old brother drowned on Friday in the water tank in their own home, located in Thuong Xuan District in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa.

-- Experts at a conference held in the central city of Da Nang on Saturday put forward proposals to maintain the biodiversity and sustainable growth of Son Tra Peninsula.

-- Specialists and pundits proposed at a seminar on Saturday that permission not be granted to a subsidiary of the state-run utility giant Vietnam Electricity to dump one million cubic meters of mud and sand into sea water off the south-central province of Binh Thuan while searching for a safer area to perform the task.

-- The fifth edition of Cau Chuyen Hoa Binh (The Story of Peace), a free-admission show co-sponsored annually by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, is poised to take place on Thursday in a war martyr cemetery in the central province of Quang Tri in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s War Martyrs and Invalids Day (July 27).
