-- Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc inspected the waste treatment area and production line of the developer of the Formosa steel mill in the north-central province of Ha Tinh on Monday, underlining that the project must be ceased if the company repeats mistakes that led to the mass fish deaths last year.

-- Police in the northern city of Hai Phong on Monday busted a ring that transported drugs across the Vietnam-Laos border, confiscating 28 bricks of heroin, weighing nearly 9.83 kg, and 8kg of methamphetamine.

-- Four Vietnamese fishermen aboard a boat in the East Vietnam Sea were shot and wounded by people on an Indonesian-flagged vessel on Saturday night, the search and rescue committee of the south-central Vietnamese province of Binh Dinh said on Monday

-- With groundless online rumors of widespread kidnapping resulting in false fear among members of the public in several Vietnamese localities, many cases where people were beaten as locals mistook them for kidnappers have been reported in the last few weeks.

-- Work began Monday on the construction of a US$114.4 million ultra-clear float glass plant, the first of its kind in Vietnam, in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
