A gang of thugs charged into a hospital in Hanoi and cut the throat of a male patient, who had earlier been admitted for treatment for head injuries, on Sunday.

A group of 20 men rushed into the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, located in Trung Tu Ward, Dong Da District, in the morning, overpowering security guards and doctors at the infirmary before attacking the victim.

The male patient was being treated for his head injury, after being slashed, when the ambush happened.

Following the assault, doctors carry out an emergency surgery on the patient, whose condition became stable as of the afternoon of the same day, said Bui Van Lenh, deputy director of the hospital.

“We are not sure if the attackers will return,” Le continued.

Managers of the infirmary have notified competent agencies of the case and sent them security camera footage to facilitate any investigation.

The leaders of the police bureau in Trung Tu Ward told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that a team of officers had been dispatched to the hospital to ensure order and security and gather reports about the case.

“The hunt for those involved in the attack has been initiated. We will make an official announcement when the result is in,” the police official added.

In early April, a group of thugs armed with weapons attacked two men, Tran Thanh Loi, 36, and Nguyen Hoang Tuan, 33, as they were being treated at a hospital in Cai Nuoc District, located in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau.

Police investigation showed that Loi and Tuan had had some conflict with a few local men prior to the incident.
