A campaign to collect 50,000 glass-shaped candles to light up martyrs’ cemeteries was launched on Friday by the Youth Social Work Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

The candles will be lit up on the tombs of martyrs on July 27 – the Martyrs’ and Wounded Soldiers Day – to commemorate their sacrifice for peace and developments of Vietnam.

All tombs in the seven martyrs’ cemeteries in the city will be lit up to show respect to the fallen people. The remainders will be used for lighting up at Truong Son Martyrs’ Cemetery in the central province of Quang Tri and in other provinces.

Donations of the candles can be sent to the center at No. 5 Dinh Tien Hoang Street in District 1 from now till July 26.

Vietnam Airlines contributed 2,000 candles, Youth Union from Cu Chi District with 2,000 candles, fire police department 1,000 and the city’s police department 1,000.
