A prolonged downpour has submerged multiple areas of the northern province of Quang Ninh, leaving a man dead and a woman injured.
Tuesday’s inundation destroyed the kitchen of Tran Van Thanh, 52, from Ha Long City, taking his life, the Quang Ninh People’s Committee said, citing its initial report.
The climatic event also swept a woman into a culvert in Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, the report said, adding that she was admitted to Bai Chay General Hospital in the ward for emergency care.
The torrential rain at 4:00 pm of between 50 and 60 centimeters covered parts of National Road No.18 near Cai Lan Port in water, stranding vehicles in the street and forcing many local residents to utilize inflatable tubes to cross the street.
Police were sent to ease traffic and tow trucks arrived at the site to rescue the breakdowns.
Hai Phong City, bordering Quang Ninh, was also hit by 40 centimeters of rainfall, causing heavy floods, paralyzing traffic in many locales, especially in Do Son District.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, heavy downpours will keep battering provinces in northern Vietnam and the north-central province of Thanh Hoa on Wednesday.
