Politics:

- An exhibition featuring ceramic maps under the theme of Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty on November 19 kicked off at the Broadcasting and Television Station in the southern province of Dong Nai. The event displays 31 maps made of ceramics, reflecting the history of claiming the country’s seas and islands sovereignty.

Society:

- A workshop on Vietnam information security on November 19 was organized in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of many local cyber security experts. One of the most-discussed topics of the workshop was the recent attacks targeting a large amount of data of local organizations, enterprises and individuals.  The experts also talked about the risk of information theft when using social networks.

- On November 19, construction on the Thanh Vu Medic II Hospital started in the southern province of Bac lieu. The hospital which is the first private hospital in the province has a capacity of 500 beds and 200 beds are scheduled to be finished in 2016 in the first phase.

- “No discrimination on HIV/AIDS patients” is the topic of the AIDS prevention month program which has been launched in HCMC. The program lasting to December 15 will feature a number of activities to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention and express the public sympathy to HIV/AIDS patients, including workshops, photo exhibitions and music shows.

- The state-run Labor and Social Affairs Publishing House has received a decision under which it will be fined VND252 million (US$11,861) in total for publishing a book titled “Bo Luat Dan Su va Van Ban Huong Dan Thi Hanh 2014” (The Civil Code and Related Circulars 2014). The book has received strong criticism from local law professionals and the public since it features a semi-nude, smiling comedian standing on a ball of fire on the front cover.

Business:

- Vietnamese and Taiwanese enterprises manufacturing Oolong tea in the Central Highlands of Lam Dong have recently called for help after suffering losses due to the rumor that their tea is contaminated with dioxin. On November 19, Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee sent an dispatch to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in HCMC, confirming that the dioxin contaminated land is hundreds of kilometers away from and completely does not influence the area Lam Dong uses to grow tea and other agricultural products.

- On November 19, the Prime Minister sent a dispatch to Kien Giang southern provincial People’s Committee and related agencies to express his agreement on investing in the international passenger port project in the province’s Phu Quoc island.

Lifestyle:

- Vu Quang Ngoc on November 19 won a trip to Sweden as the highest prize of the “Swedish Innovations through Vietnamese Lenses” competition with his photo titled “Adjustable Wrench”. The event, which is part of activities to celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Vietnam in 2014, gathers photos depicting Swedish innovations which have been used in Vietnam.
