Yamaha VN recalls 83,000 bikes over 3 issues

Yamaha Motor Vietnam is recalling Yamaha Nozza - 1DR1 scooters nationwide for testing and replacement over three technical errors, the company announced Wednesday.

The 2013 recall campaign affects 83,000 Nozza scooters made between August 20, 2011 and March 30, 2013, the company said in a statement.

The technical faults include the fuel pipe, and the bearing frame and bolts for the pipe.

The improperly-installed bearing frame may create pressure on the fuel pipe and thus result in fuel leakage, according to Yamaha Vietnam.

Owners are advised to contact their nearest authorized Yamaha dealer to have their bike tested and repaired for free, the company said.

The repair process is expected to take 30 minutes for each scooter.

“The recall campaign is an effort as well as the responsibility of Yamaha Vietnam in ensuring the product’s quality and safety for customers,” the firm said in its statement.

In early February, Yamaha Motor Corp. also launched a recall campaign on certain Zuma 125 scooters from the 2009 model year to fix a possible fuel-system fault that could cause the engine to stall, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Meanwhile, Honda Vietnam last year recalled some 152,050 Wave 110 RSX motorbikes from 2012 to fix a rear-light problem.
