Vietnam to build $2mn, 30-bed hospital in Truong Sa by 2015

The People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province has approved a project to build a hospital in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea at a cost of VND43.5 billion (US$2.05 million), said Le Xuan Than, deputy chairman of the committee.

World Atlas affirms Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa, Truong Sa archipelagos Truong Sa is an island district of the province that is located in south-central Vietnam. The hospital project is part of the provincial authorities’ plan for development of the healthcare networks for the islands by 2020, Than said, adding that the hospital will be constructed during the 2014-2015 period.  The future Truong Sa District Hospital will have 30 beds and will be equipped with all advanced medical equipment and facilities so that it can meet the requirements to be ranked among grade-2 hospitals under Vietnamese standards, the official said. The local authorities will also set up a healthcare center in Truong Sa District, Than said. The center will include a general hospital and three healthcare stations on Song Tu Tay and Sinh Ton Islands – parts of the Truong Sa archipelago – and in the Truong Sa town, he added. These health facilities will form a telemedicine service system that is connected to the Truong Sa District Hospital and Military Hospital 87 located in the province’s Nha Trang City.  Truong Sa District is 248 nautical miles away from Khanh Hoa’s Cam Ranh Bay.
