Hanoi authorities have agreed to a plan to organize fireworks shows at 30 different locations on the Eve of the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Fireworks displays lasting about 15 minutes each will take place at these locations on February 18, Lunar New Year’s Eve, according to the plan approved by the local People’s Committee.

This year’s Tet will kick off on February 19.

Five high-range fireworks displays will sparkle in such places as Hoan Kiem (Sword) Lake in Hoan Kiem District; Thong Nhat Park in Hai Ba Trung District; Lac Long Quan Park in Tay Ho District; Van Quan Lake in Ha Dong District; and My Dinh National Stadium in Nam Tu Liem District.

Twenty-five low-range shows will be organized in the heart of the city’s 25 remaining districts.

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have also unveiled plans for pyrotechnic displays for Tet.

The fireworks shows are expected to be held at eight locations: the Saigon River tunnel; Dam Sen Cultural Park (3 Hoa Binh Street, District 11); Binh Chanh District’s Lang Le-Bau Co; Hoc Mon District’s Nga Ba Giong; the District 12 Cultural Center (Trung My Tay 2); District 9’s Ethnological History and Culture Park (street No. 16, Long Binh Commune); a site in Can Gio District; and the city’s iconic Bitexco Financial Tower.

The 68-floor tower, located at 45 Ngo Duc Ke Street, District 1 in the downtown area, will also feature a US$1.5 million firework and light show on New Year’s Eve.

Tet is Vietnam’s biggest celebration with festive preparations starting around a week before the occasion, and the celebratory atmosphere lasting four to five days from the beginning.
