--Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Friday received Cambodian Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Tram Iv Tek in Hanoi, expressing his hope that the ministry will assist Vietnamese firms in doing business in the country, especially in the fields of telecommunications.

- Ho Chi Minh City administration is resolute to build the southern vietnamese metropolis into a smart city, municipal chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong said Friday, adding a detailed plan for the project is available later this year.

-- Trinh Xuan Thanh, a member of the provincial Party Committee of the sputhern propvince of Hau Giang, has been expelled from the Party over a number of  mistakes and law violations that sparked public concern and damaging the prestige of the Party, State and the official himself, the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee said Friday, following a 100-percent approval vote for the decision.

-- Pham Cong Danh, former chairman of the erstwhile Vietnam Construction Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VNCB) was sentenced after a month-long trial to 30 years behind bars by a court in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, for his main role in the loss of more than VND9 trillion (US$401.79 million) from the state budget.

-- Local taxi operator Mai Linh has offered to give a VND450 million ($20,089) cab as gift to Phan Van Bac, the truck driver who bravely saved a bus carrying more than 30 passengers with brake problems on its way down a mountain pass in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on Wednesday, to honor his heroic action.

-- Samsung Electronics hopes more Vietnamese enterprises could join its global supply chain in the future, the South Korean firm said at a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.

-- Vietnam Railways, the operator of the north-to-south train route, will start selling tickets online for the Tet (Vietnamese New Year) travel season, from January 15 to February 18, 2017, on October 1.

-- Vietnam’s e-commerce market could rise to nearly $8 billion by 2025, Alexandre Dardy, COO of Lazada, said at a ceremony where the online shopping platform inked a strategic partnership with 40 Vietnamese retailers on Friday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City received an inflow of remittance worth $2.85 billion in the Jan-Aug period of this year, the city’s branch of the State Bank of Vietnam said Friday.
