Chef Nguyen Le Hoang Phat will represent Vietnam at the 2014 Asia Pacific Bocuse d’Or culinary competition to be held in Shanghai, China for two days from June 26.

Five finalists of the regional round will continue to attend the international finale which is scheduled to take place in Lyon, France next year.

The Vietnamese team includes coach chef Michael Bao Huynh, President of Bocuse d'Or Vietnam chef David Thai, chef Nguyen Le Hoang Phat, and his assistant, Nguyen Huynh Thanh Long.

At the competition, each team has five hours and 35 minutes to prepare two elaborate presentations, a meat dish, and a fish dish.

The Bocuse d'Or is a biennial world chef championship named for renowned French chef Paul Bocuse.

The event is one of the world's most prestigious cooking competitions and its finale will take place for two days near the end of January in Lyon.

Since 1987, it has given chances to young chefs around the world to show their skills as well as to gain experience from international friends.

After its 20th anniversary, the format was expanded, with the first Bocuse d'Or Asia contest taking place in May 2008 in Shanghai and Bocuse d'Or Europe in July 2008 in Stavanger, Norway.
