A highway connecting Vientiane and Hanoi is expected to be constructed in the near future, Laotian Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has revealed during his visit to Vietnam.

PM Sisoulith joined talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on Tuesday, as part of his trip to Vietnam to attend the 8th Cambodia- Laos- Myanmar- Vietnam (CLMV) Summit, 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), and the World Economic Forum on the Mekong Region (WEF- Mekong), the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The visiting premier said the Lao government had agreed with Vietnam’s proposal to build a highway connecting to two nations’ capital cities.

He also requested Vietnam to provide Laos with the effective access to the Vung An Seaport in the north-central province of Ha Tinh.

Vietnam’s investment was on the rise in Laos and has considerably contributed to local socio-economic development, the Laotian premier noted, underling that Vietnam currently ranks third among foreign investors in his home country.

Speaking to his guest, the Vietnamese premier praised PM Sisoulith’s recent dialogue with Vietnamese businesses and pledge to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors in Laos.

A document will also be issued to remind businesses in Vietnam to execute their projects in Laos in accordance with their original commitment and schedule, according to the Vietnamese premier.

PM Phuc asked the Lao government to help remove the difficulty faced by Vietnamese investors.

As part of his visit, PM Sisoulith also met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Tran Dai Quang on the same day, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
