Tuoitrenews recommends some entertainment events you might want to take a look at for your days off

Hanoi

- The 2013 Deutschland-Fest (German Festival) will take place from 10am to 8pm on November 16 at the Vietnam National Museum of History at 1 Trang Tien Street – 25 Ton Dan Street. The event, which is in its third year will feature include lectures and presentations, games and quizzes, foods and drinks, movie screenings, photo and handicraft corners, table football performances, car exhibitions, Henna body art, and music performances. Admission is free.

- Lacquer paintings by Japanese artist Saeko Ando are now on display for free at an exhibition is organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam to celebrate the Japan – Vietnam Friendship Year 2013. The exhibit titled “Japan in Me” will run at the Japan Foundation at 27 Quang Trung Street in Hoan Kiem District until December 1.

- “Go!Go!Japan! Rock Festival 2013,” one of the most anticipated events for local rock fans will be held at 8:30pm on November 16 at Van Ho Exhibition Center at 2 Hoa Lu Street. The show, will gather rockers from the two countries, including Okamoto’s, The Ton-Up Motors and Ryukyu Disko from Japan and Thủy Triều Đỏ (Red Tide) and Oringchains from Vietnam.

- "Japanese Film Festival 2013 – Bond,” a film fest showcasing Japanese movies, is taking place in the capital city, showcasing 8 acclaimed movies made by Japanese filmmakers: “Tokyo Family,” “Star Watching Dog,” “Grave of the Fireflies,” “Linda Linda Linda,” “Half a Confession,” “Rebirth,” “Someday,” and “The Last Ronin.” The event is organized at Hanoi’s National Cinema Center at 87 Lang Ha Street until November 24.

- German pop-rock band Aufbau West will perform for free at 6pm on November 16 at the Museum of History Hanoi. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Florian Berres, bass player and vocalist Jendrik Leismann, keyboard player and vocalist Martin Kuntze, and drummer Sebastian Gödde.

Ho Chi Minh City

- 100 best works of the 2013 Vietnamese Heritage photo competition launched from June 15 to Sept 15 and jointly put on by HCMC Heritage Association and Vietnam Heritage magazine is running in Ho Chi Minh City until Nov 18 at the Independence Palace at 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 1. The displayed photos highlight the country’s culture, customs and natural heritage.

- An exhibit called “In the stream of life”, which features all woodburning paintings by local artist Ngo Van Sac, is also running in town until Nov 25. The exhibit, which is going on at Craig Thomas gallery at 27i Tran Nhat Duat Street in District 1, introduces Sac’s collection of pyrographic paintings, in which the artist created pictures on wood using heated tools which burn away some of the surface.

- The "Thổi làn gió mới! Phim truyện và hoạt hình Nhật Bản 2013” (New wind! 2013 Japanese movie and cartoon festival) has been kicked off since November 15. The 7-day event is sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in HCMC, Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, and the Japan Image Council will feature 28 movies by Japanese directors, including “Mai Mai Miracle,” “Oshin,” “Wolf Children,” “A Letter to Momo,” “Rainbow Butterflies,” “Leaving on the 15th Spring,” “Blindly in Love,” and “Love Strikes.” They films are being screened at BHD Star Cineplex Icon 168 at 2 Hai Trieu Street in District 1.
