A leading Vietnamese travel company is expected to offer a new air charter service, and will re-activate another one, to connect the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho with two famous tourist destinations in the central region next month.

Vietravel will team up with the Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO) to launch the maiden Can Tho – Nha Trang service, and resume service for the Can Tho – Da Lat route, starting on December 10, the tour operator said after a meeting with the municipal administration on Thursday.

Each service will have three flights per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, according to Vietravel deputy general director Tran The Duy.

All of the flights will use the 67-seater ATR-72 aircraft operated by VASCO, under a contract until March 2016 between the travel firm and the air service company.

Nha Trang is the capital city of the south-central province of Khanh Hoa and a resort town known worldwide for its beautiful beaches, while Da Lat is its counterpart in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

Vietravel previously launched the Can Tho – Da Lat connector on a trial basis with two flights per week between May and August this year.

Tickets for the Can Tho – Da Lat route cost a maximum of VND1.55 million (US$69) per single trip, and the Can Tho – Nha Trang service, VND1.85 million ($83).

Vietravel will also offer travel packages to help tourists from Nha Trang to explore Can Tho, Duy said.

There will be special packages for international vacationers to expand their Can Tho trip to other destinations in the Mekong Delta, he added.

“We appreciate the new air routes of Vietravel and will support them to promote the new services,” Can Tho deputy chairman Dao Anh Dung said at the Thursday meeting.

The city’s administration hopes that the charter services will be successful so that commercial flights can be operated on the two routes after March 2016.

Vietravel will also resume service for the Can Tho – Bangkok route, with only one flight each on January 3, 7 and 11, 2016.

The pilot Can Tho-Bangkok service was launched on July 21 as a cooperation deal between Vietravel, the Can Tho administration and Thai VietJet Air, and had to be halted after only five flights a fortnight later.
