9th Green Day at Victoria Hotels & Resorts

Victoria Hotels & Resorts held its annual “Victoria Green Day” in its six properties across Vietnam and Cambodia on November 24th, 2012. The environmental campaign focuses on raising awareness of “green” issues on the Earth and the responsibilities of humans to protect it. With a slogan “Plant a tree, plant a hope”, the activities of this year included tree plantation, garbage collection and environmental education for the pupils in surrounding schools.

Up in the Northwestern highlands, Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa successfully organized a tree plantation program in Ta Van Village, home of the H’mong ethnic minority. In addition, a recycling contest was also held in 15 classes of Ta Van School to raise awareness of recycling. In the evening, the famous movie “Home” by Yann Arthus Bertrand was projected in Sapa Square as a reward after a hardworking day.

In the central coastline, Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort and Spa showed its creativity through a special action plan called “3R” – Reduce – Reuse – Recycle which aims at mobilizing local people to protect the environment in a right way. In cooperation with Do Trong Huong Primary School, a recycling contest among the pupils was successfully carried on with the witness of more than 400 people from the school, local community and Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa. In addition, a tree plantation was also organized around the school.

Along the Vietnamese shoreline, Victoria Phan Thiet Beach Resort & Spa coordinated with the local authorities to include planting trees and collecting trash around Phu Hai Ward and along the beach. With the help of 100 pupils, 70 Local Authorities and Youth Volunteers with 130 of our Victoria Phan Thiet members, 110 “Popla” trees and 20 coconut trees were planted at Phu Hai People Committee and around Victoria Phan Thiet Beach Resort & Spa.

Down to the rich and fertile Mekong Delta, Victoria Can Tho Resort became a green ambassador by giving an educative speech with riddles about the environment to more than 700 local students in Tran Ngoc Que secondary school (Can Tho) and Cai Tac secondary school (Hau Giang). In between, 220 trees were planted around the school with the help of the pupils, Victoria staff and volunteers.

120km away, close to the Cambodian border, more than 150 people including pupils from a local school, local youth volunteers, hotel guests and staff of Victoria Chau Doc Hotel had a great clean –up day around Sam Mountain and successfully planted 200 trees on the mountain peak.

In order to answer the needs expressed by the local community, Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa prefers a long-term project. The property sponsored an Environmental Educational Program for the children with the help of a local NGO and neighboring school. The objective of this project is to raise the awareness among the children about the importance of environment to human’s life and how each individual should contribute to protect it.
