Police have held a Vietnamese-American man for further investigation into his stealing a taxi in Ho Chi Minh City.

Cao Dinh Khoi, 38, was detained at the local police office on Saturday evening.

Initial reports said that on the same afternoon, Khoi was taken by his relatives to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics in District 5 for finger treatment.

Khoi then refused to be diagnosed and hopped on a taxi driven by Le Hoang Cam, 34.

He pushed Cam out of the vehicle and drove it to the Ba Thang Hai-Nguyen Tri Phuong intersection in District 10, the reports said, adding that he left the cab there.

Following a tip-off, police recovered the vehicle for investigation and captured the man in a hospital in District 7 at 3:00 pm yesterday when he had undergone a finger operation.
