Politics:

-- The Vietnamese cabinet has recently convened for its monthly meeting which focused on the implementation of socioeconomic development tasks in the first ten months of this year and discussing measures to achieve the country’s yearly targets.

Society:

-- Twenty-seven children in southern Tien Giang Province were hospitalized for high fever after being vaccinated with Quinvaxem, which has been re-used after five months of suspension for safety verification.

-- Health minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien strongly condemned the owner of Hanoi-based Cat Tuong Beauty Salon for dumping his female customer’s body into a river after she died at his salon following a cosmetic surgery, stating that the act “inhuman” when speaking for the first time to the media.

-- Police in the northern province of Son La have taken a man, the 21-year-old Vang A Lenh, into custody after catching him transporting twenty 350g cakes of heroin by motorbike when bringing the drugs into Pa Cop Village in Van Ho District.

 -- Three Vietnamese scientists, Tran Ha Lien Phuong from the Vietnam National University in HCM City, Vu Thi Hanh Thu from the HCM City University of Natural Sciences and Tran Thi Thu Thuy from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, have received the UNESCO-L’Oreal National Fellowship for Women in Science in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- As many as 3.16 million people in Vietnam, or 5.29 percent of its population, are suffering from diabetes, and the figure may rise to 3.4 million in 2030, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) said at a press conference held by the Ministry of Health and the Novo Nordisk to announce the Festival on Prevention of Diabetes in 2013 – a program that is aimed at easing the burden caused by diabetes on society in Vietnam.

Business:

-- Vietnam Motor Show 2013, the biggest annual expo for automobile industry, is a magnet to many Saigonese, especially when the last two days of the event fall on the weekend. The 9th annual event lured some 25,000 visitors on the first day, setting a new record for the number of visitors coming to such event on the opening day.

-- MK Smart Joint Stock Co, a subsidiary of MK Group, has been recognized as Vietnam's first high-tech enterprise by the Ministry of Science and Technology as it has met all of the high technology regulations set out by the ministry to become a market leader in Vietnam's fledgling smart card sector.

-- There will be no more increase in electricity bill in the last 2 months of this year, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a monthly government meeting in Hanoi.

Lifestyle:

-- The two-day French Fair 2013, better known as Balade en France 2013, brought the taste of France to local diners in Ho Chi Minh City as it showcased delicious French foods, including Annam Gourmet Raclette, cold cuts and cheese from Rhone valley, roast duck breast with black pepper and honey, crème brulee, homemade cassoulet, and five kinds of wines from different regions in France, like Centre et Loire, Languedoc, and South West region of France.

-- The Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea has coordinated with agencies in the country to organize an artistic performance for Vietnamese people living there in the capital city Seoul and Jeollanam-do Province where there is a large number of Vietnamese living and working to celebrate the 21st anniversary of bilateral relationship.

-- A recently released book, titled In My Eyes, has revealed the deepest corners of the lives of Vietnamese transgender people with hundreds of stories unveiled by the insiders, who overcame traditional taboos and social opinions to become "new" people and to live with the nature of their own personalities.

Sports:

 -- Australia has won Vietnam 6 – 1 in a semi-final match of the ASEAN football Federation’s Futsal Championships on October 25.
