Visiting Slovakian Defense Minister Martin Glvac and his Vietnamese counterpart Phung Quang Thanh have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strengthening the defense cooperation between the two countries. The MoU was entered into following the talks of the two ministers in Hanoi on Tuesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The two sides agreed that the MoU will create a legal foundation for the two nations to step up their defense ties for the sake of peace, stability, and security for both. The two ministers put forth measures to foster the Vietnam-Slovakia defense relations in the coming time and discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest.

They agreed that both nations will focus on promoting all-level delegation exchanges and personnel training, and sharing experience in United Nations peace-keeping missions. During his seven-day visit to Vietnam starting on June 8, Minister Glvac is scheduled to meet with State President Truong Tan Sang and chair an exchange program between the Vietnam-Slovakia Friendship Association and Slovak defense businesses. The Slovakian minister will also visit a number of units of the Vietnam People’s Army.
