-- An explosion occurred at a house in a residential area in Dong Tuyen Commune, Lao Cai City, located in northern Vietnam, on Sunday morning, killing a married couple. Initial investigation showed that the accident happened due to a gas explosion.

-- Hoang Van Hoi, 22, who was from the central province of Thua Thien Hue, was crushed to death by a conveyor belt at a local company at around 8:15 am on Sunday.

-- Police in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau affirmed on Sunday that a physical confrontation had happened between a group of people on Saturday evening, resulting in one person being killed and three others hospitalized. The incident arose from conflict between workers at a construction site, police officers said.

-- Two workers were killed in a landslide that happened at a coal mine in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Sunday afternoon. The two victims are Nguyen Chi Thanh, 54, and Vu Quang, 43.

-- A 25-year-old woman from South Korea was diagnosed with the mosquito borne Zika disease on May 4, after working in Vietnam for nearly a month, according to Tran Dac Phu, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

Business

-- A steel-hull fishing boat, owned by Nguyen Suong, was launched on Sunday in the central city of Da Nang. The ship was built in September 2015 at a cost of VND17.5 billion (US$785,750).

-- Minh Long I, a famous Vietnamese ceramic company, on Sunday morning inaugurated its newest branch in My Tho City, extending its business operation to the Mekong Delta. The firm has established a network of distributors in 13 provinces in Vietnam and several foreign countries, including the United States, Germany, and others.

-- Vietnamese food and agricultural products are at risk of being withdrawn from supermarket chain Big C due to an extortionate increase in commission set by the operator of the giant retailer.

Education

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha on Sunday opened the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City, situated in Le Minh Xuan Commune, Binh Chanh District.
