Cyclist collects 8th silver for Vietnam at 17th Asian Games

Cyclist Nguyen Thi That has won the eighth silver medal for Team Vietnam at the 17th Asian Games after she finished second in the women's road cycling race event in Incheon, South Korea on Monday.
The silver was a huge surprise for the Vietnamese as their cyclists were considered the underdogs in the event, in which strong rivals from South Korea, China, and Japan also competed.
The female cyclists pedaled for six laps around the Songdo Road Cycling Course, covering 126km, under heavy rains and the adverse effects of strong winds.
Even so, That and her compatriot Nguyen Phan Ngoc Trang managed to be in the leading group until the last lap.
When the cyclists sprinted to the finish line, That overtook Taiwanese rival Hsiao Mei Yu, but failed to stop Thailand’s Maneephan Jutatip from crossing the finish line first.
That ranked second whereas Trang finished 15th in the race.
It was a great pity for That, as Maneephan could not beat her when they competed at the 2014 Binh Duong Open cycling championship in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Duong last March.
As of 5:00 pm on Monday, Team Vietnam stood at the 18th place on the medal tally, with 1 gold, 8 silvers, and 20 bronzes.
