Vietnam, the host of the upcoming 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132), believes that the event will create an opportunity for it to conduct various diplomatic activities with global partners, a senior Vietnamese official has said.

Tran Van Hang, Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Committee for External Relations, made the statement at a meeting in Hanoi on Friday with heads of foreign diplomatic agencies and organizations, according to the Vietnam News Agency. Vietnam is looking forward to the participation of all members of the IPU-132, which will be held in the capital city from March 28 to April 1, Hang said. The event, which is centered on “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning Words into Action,” will welcome 2,000 delegates from 150 countries and international organizations, said Hang, who is also the permanent deputy head of the IPU-132 organizing board. It will create an opportunity for Vietnam to undertake a lot of diplomatic activities, bilateral and multilateral, with its international partners, the official said. He added the IPU-132 will give Vietnam a chance to highlight its socio-economic achievements after 30 years of ‘Doi Moi’ (Renovation). Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, deputy head of the organizing board, said the event will help the Southeast Asian country demonstrate its willingness to promote peace, democracy, friendship, and cooperation. Vu Hai Ha, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Committee for External Relations, head of the IPU-132 Secretariat, assured participants that preparations for the event are nearly complete.
