Ministry warns schools against using unaccredited English textbooks

Ministry warns schools against using unaccredited English textbooks

Friday, June 28, 2013, 16:35 GMT+7

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has warned local elementary schools against continuing to use unapproved textbooks in English teaching in the next school year.

The warning was recently given after some schools put teaching materials that have not been accredited by the ministry on their curricula in the 2012-13 academic year, which closed late last month.

The government body demanded that these materials not used in the 2013-14 school year, starting early September, unless education authorities have certified them.

The ministry has also specified which textbooks can be used, including Tieng Anh (English) 3, 4, 5, Let’s Learn English 1, 2, 3, Learning Box UK English Programme, Let’s Go, Family and Friend, Dyned, Next Stop, and BME-KIDs.

These books have been put into use for pilot English teaching projects in many parts of the country, where students are allowed to choose to learn the subject with the materials, for as long as five years now.
