Traffic inspector Dao Vinh Thuan of Hanoi Department of Transport has been fired for his involvement in the assault of a female Vietnam Airlines employee last Tuesday.

The decision to terminate Thuan’s labor contract was made on Monday morning at a meeting of the transport department.

Thuan was the one who grabbed Vietnam Airlines customer service deputy Nguyen Le Quynh Anh by her collar while another passenger Tran Duong Tung continuously hit her on the head at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport in the October 18 incident.

The passengers assaulted Anh after catching her filming their verbal abuse of an airport’s security scanning officer.

Thuan and Tung were last Thursday barred from flying for six and 12 months respectively by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Monday’s meeting, chaired by the transport department’s director Vu Van Vien, concluded that Thuan had conducted many disciplinary violations, including unapproved leave and physical abuse of a woman in public.

Director Vien asserted that such actions by Thuan had seriously affected the public image of a traffic inspector under the department.

The director demanded the termination of Thuan’s labor contract with Hanoi Traffic Inspectorate from November 1.
