"Love doctor" gives advice, shocks radio audience

Thursday, July 12, 2012, 12:21 GMT+7

A “love doctor” tried to give relationship advice to a troubled man on the radio but could not untangle the caller’s situation, and also managed to get himself into hot water.

Previously, a young man called the radio show Love windows on the Voice of Vietnam to confess his problem. He said he had been in love with a girl for six months, however, he was also having feelingings for her sister. The two-minded man sought advice on what he could do.

“You fell in love with a girl, had sex with her, and now want to lust after her sister?” asked psychologist Dinh Doan, who was a guest advisor at the show on that day.

“Do you love your girlfriend truly or do you just want to hook up with the whole family?”

The “love doctor” then explained that young women do not think about relationships thoroughly and often follow around handsome young men. He said if the boy cannot control his feelings for a moment, he might lose both girls and get a stigma.

“You have to restrain yourself and prevent further consequences. If you visit your girlfriend but she isn’t home, there is no need to go to her sister’s room. If she closes the door, you should understand. Even a rat knows how to get out of when the door is still ajar!” he continued.

“I am just afraid you like it too. Luckily there are only two sisters living together. If there were some aunties in the house and you also want to hook up with them, would it be miserable?”

An audio file of this four-minute consultation was quickly spread online and has received different comments. Most people do not agree with the young man’s conceptions and thoughts. They are also opposed to the psychologist’s overly casual advice, using supposedly funny words and similes.

In an interview with newswire Vietnamnet, the relationship expert said he took an informal approach to become close to listeners and the troubled man. He also added he was angry after hearing of the situation but tried to keep calm.

“Imagine you are in my shoes and hear about his situation, would you feel angry about it? If I had met him in real life, I would have scolded him. However I have no right to do that on the radio, so I had to control my temper and only express it through sarcastic words,” he said.

He explained it was a live show where he had little time to think and consider before giving advice.

“It’s up to the audience for judgment,” said the psychologist.

“I’ve been giving relationship advice to thousands of people for 14 or 15 years. If they try to find my mistakes, that show was not the only exception.”
