Ho Chi Minh City celebrates Int’l Women’s Day

Ho Chi Minh City celebrates Int’l Women’s Day

Tuesday, March 08, 2016, 14:59 GMT+7

Art exhibitions and flower markets in Ho Chi Minh City are set to honor International Women’s Day on March 8.

To celebrate the occasion, flower stalls have opened in the city on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in District 1, Nguyen Tri Phuong Street in District 5, and An Duong Vuong Street in District 5 to sell bouquets of flower to passers-by.

Some of them are run by social work teams from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City to raise funds for poor children in southwestern Vietnam.

Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, vice leader of the group, said that all members are passionate about doing such charitable work.

“Although the activity only raises a small fund, the flowers themselves are meaningful to many,” Tu said.

“When one buys a bouquet to share with their beloved ones, they also help poor children get new notebooks, new schoolbags, or even new clothes, which is our delight.”

Art exhibitions

On Tuesday, multiple activities will take place at the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Culture Center in District 3 in celebration of the event.

In the morning, Ngan Ha (Galaxy) Female Artist Club showcased a painting exhibition dedicated to the ‘love rhythm.’

The display presented 30 pieces of art inspired by the beauty of women, hometowns, the nation, and more.

In the afternoon, the center also holds a small talk with the authors of two books.

The talk features female guerrillas fighting in Cu Chi Tunnels during the American war in Vietnam.

In the evening, there will be a free-of-charge concert based on the grace of Vietnam, including many celebrities and singers.
