Politics:

-- Maritime police ship JuJakHam of South Korea yesterday visited a port in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau. It will conduct exchanges, fire prevention rehearsal, and rescue with Vietnam maritime police force.

Society:

-- Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has recommended restaurants in airports across Vietnam to sell food at extortionate prices after the agency has received blames from passengers.

-- Smoke, likely from forest fire in Indonesia, has spread to coastal areas in the south of Vietnam including Ba Ria Vung Tau and Con Dao island. It has limited the vision to only 2-5km. As a result, eight flights of helicopters to and from Ba Ria Vung Tau were canceled.

-- Passenger transport company Khai Nguyen has been suspended its operations on the Hanoi-Thai Binh route by Hanoi authorities after its drivers have repeatedly violated traffic regulations.

-- Two cargo ships were arrested in Can Tho City for their unlawful exploitation of sand from Hau River in the Mekong Delta. The facilities are owned by the Dang Quang Company.

-- From now till the end of this year, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have set a target to clear 140 construction projects that have been suspended for years.

Business:

-- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced to transfer 200,000 hectares of rice fields in the Mekong Delta and the North into cultivating other crops.

-- 52 hectares of agricultural land in Binh Dai District of Ben Tre Province in the Mekong Delta were wrongly rented by Simmy Company of Taiwan, China as the deal has not been approved by the local department and natural resources and environment. In law, the department is authorized to grant land for hire to foreign agencies.

-- Hundreds of tons of potatoes, cabbages, ginger, and onion of China have been imported into Vietnam everyday but Vietnam’s authorities just make perfunctory examination and checking of the goods. The blame has risen up after a large amount of goods from China has been found of containing poisons.

-- Travel Life Company in Ho Chi Minh City has agreed to compensate 701 Vietnamese tourists VND2.5 million (US$120) each for being abandoned for several days during their travel tour in Thailand this month.

-- CPI in Vietnam increased 0.05 percent in June.

-- Vietnam suffers a loss of VND1.7 trillion (US$81.7 million) a year for illegal export of iron ore to China.
