Five players from the Vietnamese national tennis team on Sunday flew to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to take part in Asia/Oceania Zone Group 3 of the Davis Cup with a target to avoid relegation.

The team includes Do Minh Quan, Le Quoc Khanh, Nguyen Hoang Thien, Pham Minh Tuan, and Tran Hoang Anh Khoa. Australian coach Michael Baroch and team chief Truong Quoc Bao also accompanied the team.

Vietnam is in Group 3 with the UAE, Iran, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Oman, Malaysia, and Pacific Oceania.

The eight teams will be drawn into two tables, and the two top teams in each group will play to advance to Group 2. The two losers battle for relegation.

Captain Quan, who recently finished a six-month training course in the US, said, “In recent days, we have been training with a lesson plan compiled by the Aussie coach. It is similar to what I had in the US.”

The team, which had two weeks of training in Ho Chi Minh City before the trip, will also have yoga training lessons thanks to a coach from Singapore. Yoga has become a regular part of training for elite players like Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Earlier, Vietnamese coach Tran Duc Quynh and player Ly Hoang Nam refused to join the team due to personal disputes.
