Politics:

-- At the conference on the modification of the law of construction held yesterday in Da Nang City, many ideas have proposed not to include the technical design drawing in the legal documents for authorities’ approval.

-- In a meeting with authorities of Cam Ranh City in the central region, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed to local leaders that Cam Ranh is a major locality for both economic and national defense developments, and is one of the key doors to the East Sea of Vietnam.

-- A draft ordinance of the Ministry of National Resources and Environment suggests to impose a fine of VND50 million (US$2,400) for those who publish national map with wrong information on the sovereignty of Vietnam over islands and archipelagos.

Society:

-- The Ministry of Finance proposed lottery companies to pay rewards to owners of lottery tickets that are torn out. Previously, several lottery companies refused to pay rewards because the tickets were torn.

-- Rescue squads of Vung Tau beaches have little equipment for their jobs in the past 12 years, and it is one of the reasons that caused 41 people were drowned in Vung Tau since 2001.

-- Vietnam has obtained achievements in poverty alleviation but not at a sustainable base, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh at the governmental conference yesterday. The rate of poor households in Vietnam fell from 14.2 percent in 2010 to 9.6 percent in 2012. Vietnam also sets a target of pulling down the rate of poor households to less than 5 percent by the end of 2015.

-- Veterinary authorities in Long An Province in the Mekong Delta culled 700 unvaccinated ducks and chickens and 100 eggs on April 21-22 kept in Vinh Dai Commune after a woman in the locality was confirmed of being infected bird flu H5N1.

-- The Ministry of Health has issued a regulation to ask hospitals to ensure the waiting time of diagnosis and treatment for a patient from 2-4 hours. Now, many patients have to wait for almost a day to be checked.

Business:

-- Authorities of the central province of Quang Ngai are mulling way to help districts Ly Son and Binh Son export fishing labor. Vietnam has exported 20,000 fishing laborers since 2009, mainly from central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Binh, and Ha Tinh.

-- April CPI in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi kept on falling with the former going down 0.33 percent and 0.15 percent for the latter.

-- Vinamilk yesterday inaugurated a US$100 million dairy farm in the industrial park VSIP 1 in the southern province of Binh Duong. The facility has an annual output of 54,000 tons of milk.

-- Vietnam Airlines yesterday announced it will add 434 flights, or an increase of 57,900 seats a day, to meet the increasing demand of passenger transport on the festival April 30 and May 1.

Lifestyle:

-- Quang Ngai Province will organize the traditional Hoang Sa Soldier Feast and Commemoration Festival on Ly Son Island from April 25-29. The annual event, which was held centuries ago, aims to honor late soldiers in guarding Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.
